Pablo Picasso once said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." I am an artist, musician, and teacher. I aspire to help children remain artists at heart once they grow up too. I love sharing my passion for creating, especially with children. I believe that learning creative problem-solving is an imperative life skill important for all children. I have a diverse background with experience teaching all ages. Some of the topics I have taught include art, drawing, computer art, animation, dance, swimming, and piano.
Currently, I teach piano lessons in Fairfax, Virginia. Before I moved to Fairfax, I taught from my studio in Richmond for four years. I specialize in teaching young students starting at age four and am familiar with a variety of learning approaches including the Suzuki method. I love watching young music-lovers become music performers and composers. As a pianist, my favorite styles of music to play include classical, pop, jazz, and broadway tunes.
As an artist, my interests are varied. I love painting in oil and watercolors, and I also enjoy making jewelry, photo-editing, and graphic design work. In the spring of 2004, I was graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art, painting emphasis. I was graduated with a Masters in Art Education and my K-12 teaching license from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009. I taught art in public schools for three years. At Varina High School, I taught Computer Arts and Drawing, and in Brunswick High School, I taught Art and Photojournalism.
